Keep Bicycle Shops Open in Miami-Dade as Essential Businesses
SIGN THE PETITION HERE! In response to the growing coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic, Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez signed Miami-Dade County Emergency Order 07-20, which ordered the closing of all non-essential retail and commercial establishments. Essential retail was allowed to remain open. Gas stations and auto-supply, auto-repair, and related facilities were deemed essential. Bicycle supply and repair shops have been deemed non-essential. As a result of people being asked to practice social distancing, many are fearful of taking public transportation. Likewise, many people do not have cars or trucks to get around. Bicycles are a vital method of transportation to so many in our community. Bicycles are also a way for people to maintain their physical and mental health during this stressful time. Bicycle supply and repair shops are just as vital and essential to those citizens as auto shops. These retail and commercial establishments must be included as essential by the County, or people will be prejudiced as a result.
